2011 at the Concrete Institute of Australia
While it’s not quite over yet, 2011 has already been a busy and productive year for the Concrete Institute.
In March, at an extraordinary general meeting, the Membership voted to adopt a new Constitution. This has replaced the previous Memorandum and Articles of Association and allows for more effective governance of the Institute’s affairs.
We also launched the new CIA Website and Knowledge Centre in March of this year. The new website was designed to allow greater Member interaction and participation with the Institute and increased efficiency in the management of our many Committees. Enhanced search capability within the Knowledge Centre allows Members fast easy access to Institute publications and papers.
Elections for the National Council took place in August with Liza O’Moore succeeding Fred Andrews- Phaedonos as President in October. Doug Jenkins has taken over from Liza as Vice President and we also welcome new Councillors Frank Papworth, Michael van Koeverden and Michael Ting.
In October we launched the CIA-ACI Joint Membership initiative. This provides the opportunity for Individual Members of the Concrete Institute of Australia to also become individual Members of the American Concrete institute at a heavily discounted rate.
October also saw the biggest event on our calendar – the Institute’s biennial conference Concrete 2011 in Perth. The conference was a huge success with delegates treated to a high quality technical program, as well as the ever popular social functions. These culminated in a Gala Dinner on the final evening of the conference.
The Gala Dinner showcased the entrants in the Concrete Institute of Australia 2011 Awards for Excellence in Concrete. The Institute would like to thank all the entrants and congratulates the winners. We would especially like to congratulate the winner of the Kevin Cavanagh Medal - the Gateway Upgrade Project in Brisbane.
If you add in four National Seminar Series, regular events run by the State Branches, and four editions of our magazine Concrete in Australia you will appreciate exactly how busy a year it has been.
None of this could have been achieved without the hard work and dedication of our many talented volunteers, and we thank them sincerely for all their efforts.
We wish all of our Members, sponsors and volunteers all the best for the coming holiday season. We hope that you maintain your involvement in 2012 and that it proves to be another great year for the Concrete Institute of Australia.
