Overview
Ripping down the old structure may not be the best option in today’s environment. The inconvenience of demolition and reconstruction, lost income etc. Is the planned new structure suitable for the old site? This presentation will look at various projects and a number of options available to extend the old concrete structures life through various repair methods including Corrosion Protection and Carbon Fibre Structural Strengthening.
We see our aged infrastructure lasting the test of time but capacity needs an upgrade due to burgeoning population increases and greater demand on infrastructure.
In this discussion we focus on;
1. Obvious signs of concrete distress rather than fatigue or mechanical over-loading;
2. Available methods of protection of concrete from carbonation, chloride and acid attack within Australian climates, and;
3. Common field-based pitfalls when assessing and repairing concrete structures
