This one-day seminar will be suitable for those wanting an introduction to the principles, or experienced engineers who want to refresh their understanding of the essentials of FEA modelling. We will consider how to model reinforced concrete structures; common mistakes; and how to interpret results from FE analyses.  It will help delegates choose efficient and practical modelling approaches, spot and eliminate common errors, and understand what the results mean (and what they don’t mean!).

This presentation will be made by two experts from the UK with many years of practical FEA experience.

1) How to model reinforced concrete structures

2) Common faults with models for reinforced concrete structures

3) Interpretation of FEA results


Steve Rhodes is a Chartered Civil Engineer with 20 years experience in structures.  Since graduating in 1994, he has mostly been engaged on bridge design and assessment projects, ranging between design of a 450m long launched post-tensioned viaduct to management of a stock of 5,000 existing small and medium-sized structures.  He spent 3 years on the technical support helpline for an FE analysis firm (LUSAS), encountering good and bad practice every day.  Since 2008, he has been writing and delivering training courses internationally. 
Steve will be joined by Stewart Morrison, Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and Professional Simulation Engineer (NAFEMS) who is also engaged in promoting the practical application of FE technology.
