Professor Emad Gad
Dean of Engineering - Swinburne University of Technology

Professor Priyan Mendis
Professor of Civil Engineering - Melbourne University

For the first time, the Victorian branch of the Concrete Institute of Australia held a very successful Q&A session last year, which highlighted several unanswered questions.  This year’s Q&A session will highlight more ambiguous areas and provide a platform for discussion with the experts in the industry.
  • In order to make this year’s Q&A a success we are inviting Engineers, Builders and Academics not only to participate and contribute to this important event, but also to be ready with your important unresolved technical questions.

"The Future of our Standards" as presented by Professor Emad Gad who is a civil engineer with extensive experience in structural dynamics, residential construction and structural connections. His applied research has contributed to the development of several standards and codes of practice. Emad is Chair of the Board of the Australian Engineered Fasteners and Anchors Council (AEFAC), Co-Editor of the Australian Journal of Structural Engineering, appointment member of the Victorian Government Building Advisory Council (BAC) and Fellow of Engineers Australia.

"AS3600" will be covered by Professor Priyan Mendis, Professor of Civil Engineering at Melbourne University. Priyan Mendis worked as a Structural Engineer at Connell Wagner before joining the University in early 1990s. He is one of the first engineers to introduce High-strength concrete to tall building projects in Australia. He is the author of the popular book, Design of High-strength Concrete, State of the Art and led the American Concrete Institute International committee for high-strength concrete in the late nineties. He Chaired a sub-committee of BD2 in 1990s, which led to the introduction of high-strength concrete in AS3600.

In the second part of the evening we want to hear from you! We will take the learnings from our 1st session into the second presentation for wider discussion amongst all attendees. Our moderators will outline some common question that arise. After some background and suggestions for how to overcome the issue, the topic will be open to the floor for discussion and comments. We hope to generate passionate discussion amongst the crowd with some good outcomes that we can all take with us. We look forward to receiving your questions and seeing you at the important Q&A event!

As the time for the session is limited we would appreciate if you could send us your questions beforehand emailed to marked to the attention of Annie Forster. Send us your burning questions by 16th June 2017 and your input will be considered for inclusion. Let us know if you would prefer that your name is not displayed during the evening.
