Post-tensioning is an innovative and cost-effective method of enhancing the performance and strength of concrete structures. It has many uses and applications in the construction of buildings, bridges and water retaining structures. It can provide cost-effective gains and also more durable outcomes for concrete elements. This seminar will focus on the utilisation of post-tensioning from 3 areas of relevance which cover design, construction and material applications:
  • Post-tensioning in buildings applications;
  • The use of post-tensioning in bridge construction;
  • Advancements in grouting for post-tensioned concrete.

Post-Tensioned U-Girders at Bridge over Clarence River at Harwood

Acciona Ferrovial Harwood Joint Venture has been engaged to design and build the new bridge over the Clarence River at Harwood, located on the Pacific Highway in New South Wales.  Jointly Choon and Ian will present an up to date project review of this part of the overall $4.36 billion Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade.

Grouting of Post Tensioned Structures

Crosbe is a proud supplier of cementitious materials to the PT industry and works closely with the PTIA in a commitment to achieving ongoing technical advances in materials for the industry.  Over the last 2 years, Crosbe has developed a range of specialised PT products for the grouting of PT tendons and the patching of anchor points.  This presentation will explain the key criteria and importance of a quality grout as part of a PT system, as well as some of the pitfalls in traditional grouting practices.

Restraint Detailing of Post Tensioned Slabs in High-rise Buildings

The impact of slab shrinkage restraint due to large, stiff vertical structure in tall buildings, requires detailed consideration when detailing post tensioned slabs. Serviceability performance is substantially impacted, and some key considerations in terms of analysis and subsequent detailing will be presented.
