Sydney Metro City & Southwest involves extending the metro rail under Sydney Harbour, through new underground city stations and beyond to the south west. The tunnelling will deliver twin new metro railway tunnels below the centre of Sydney and deep under Sydney Harbour as part of Australia’s biggest public transport project, Sydney Metro.

The John Holland, CPB, and Ghella joint venture engaged Arcadis and BG&E (ABJV) to do the tunnel station excavations, surface civil works and selected structures. ABJV’s work involves the dive structures at Chatswood and Sydenham, the station excavations at Waterloo and Crows Nest, and all the shaft excavations and temporary works for access at Pitt street, Martin place and Victoria Cross. In addition, ABJV is also providing the excavation and tunnel station design for Barangaroo Station.

This presentation will outline the general engineering basis for the design of the shoring solutions developed for the locations mentioned above.
