Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) re-bar is an economical alternative to steel reinforcing, particularly stainless steel and galvanised steel. GFRP is electromagnetically transparent, high strength, robust, lightweight and cuttable. It is particularly efficient in aggressive or corrosive environments such as marine structures, sewerage treatment and chemical plants. GFRP allows designers to reduce concrete coverage, avoid admixtures, and remove requirements for cathode/anode treatments. In these aggressive environments capital costs and whole of life will often be reduced.
