Over the last 40 years, fibre reinforced concrete has been increasingly used for pavement and ground floor slab construction in Australia to improve construction efficiency and productivity. However, not all these fibre reinforced concrete pavements have performed satisfactory; many have failed soon after construction and/or before reaching the end of their service lives. This presentation discusses the common design pitfalls and how to avoid them. This presentation also provides an insight into the fibre reinforced concrete pavement design-and-construction quality control requirements in order to achieve a high quality and durability floor pavement.

This presentation considers the importance of ASTM/ACI compliant under slab vapour barriers to future proof buildings, provide energy efficiencies, protect sensitive floors, and make healthier buildings in the absence of an Australian Standard currently.  It looks at the properties of a compliant vapour barrier and what impact this will have on the building through its lifetime.
