Professor Jay Sanjayan (Swinburne University)
Jay is the Director of the Digital Construction Lab at the Swinburne University of Technology. The lab houses several 3D concrete printers including a large scale 6-axis 3D concrete printer – only one of its kind in the world. Jay has extensively published in topics related to concrete construction, including the first (and the most widely sold) book on the subject of 3D concrete printing. Jay is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and an Honorary Member of Concrete Institute of Australia.

3D concrete printing is an emerging technology with great promise to introduce much-needed automation in concrete construction. 3D printing with polymers and metals are already matured technologies, which are widely used in manufacturing and aerospace industries. Can the 3D printing technology be used in concrete construction? What are the limitations? This presentation will cover these issues and discuss the advantages, limitations and the current research progress in this rapidly progressing field. The presentation will include 3D printing examples in the laboratory using mortar, geopolymer and UHPC in addition to large scale construction examples utilising this technology.
Dr Voo Yen Lei (Dura Technology S/B)
Dr Voo Yen Lei is the CEO and Founder of Dura Technology S/B, which specialises in the design and manufacturing of precast and customised concrete products made from Ultra-High-Performance Concrete. He is a professional engineer (PE) which registered under the Institute of Engineer of Malaysia. Dr Voo also an adjunct associate professor with the UNSW Sydney and adjunct professor with the Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia. He was awarded the 2016 PCI Design Award Winner: Best International Transportation Structure.

Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) Bridge - The Malaysia Perspective

About this Presentation
Since the millennium, over 300 bridges or bridge related components have been constructed using ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) all around the world. UHPC is an advanced cementitious-based composite material that offers new opportunities for infrastructure works, building constructions and many niche markets.
To-date, both private and governmental bodies are increasing their directives to exploit UHPC as the future concrete construction material, in the belief that UHPC technology offers a complete solution for sustainable construction with favourable life cycle value.
With more than 130 UHPC built since year 2010 to-date, Malaysia possibly has built the most number of UHPC bridges in the world. This webinar looks at the type of UHPC bridges most commonly used in Malaysia and some construction costs of the past projects and using the Manong Bridge as a case study. We will discuss the features of this UHPC segmental U-girder, provide insight to the manufacturing of the U-girder, quality control and the quality assurance processes of the precast segments, constructability and of how UHPC has helped to make the bridge more affordable and sustainable.
