Simon Hughes - Westkon Precast
Over the past 25 years Simon has been involved in all facets of precast design and construction; from structural design and detailing, and site co-ordination to Production and Construction Management.
Simon joined Westkon Precast in January 2015 and oversees Westkon’s Technical Department, as well as recently starting Precast Concepts Pty. Ltd, primarily involved in offering independent technical advice and conceptual design. Simon is a past president of the Concrete Institute of Australia (Victoria Branch), he is an Australian representative on Commission 6 of the Federation International Beton on Prefabrication, and is the CIA representative on the BD-066 committee responsible for drafting the Australian Standard AS3850: Prefabricated Concrete Elements.

About this Presentation
This presentation will look into precast concrete structures and the importance of prestressed elements in their success. Exploring precast prestressed elements from a precasters perspective and discussing some of the different types of products that can be successfully incorporated into various projects.

Peter McUtchen (BEng MIE MAICD) – PARKD Ltd
Peter is the CEO and a Director of PARKD Ltd (ASX:PKD) which he co-founded in 2016 and listed on the ASX as a construction technology company in 2017. He has firsthand experience in the commercialisation of engineering and construction IP as the Inventor and Innovator behind Australia’s only modular and semi-permanent multi-level car park structural system, the PARKD Car Park System. Peter is considered a Subject Matter Expert in the fields of post tensioning design and construction along with modern methods of construction and LEAN Construction Practice. Peter is a Past President of the West Australian branch of the Concrete Institute of Australia and founder of Perth’s largest construction networking association Construction Industry Drinks and Networking (CIDN).

Post tensioned concrete is now accepted as the most efficient and cost effective option for the construction of suspended concrete structures. Peter will be presenting on the roles and responsibilities of the Project Engineers and Specialist sub-contractors to maximise the design and construction outcomes for building projects.
Lyn Morgan - UK CARES
Lyn holds a Degree in Engineering and Material Science and has over 30 years’ experience in steel production, foundry production, machining and rebar processing. Lyn joined CARES 6 years ago and works as the Construction Scheme Manager developing both the CARES Technical approvals and Construction product Schemes. He works closely with the CARES Technical Committees to strengthen the CARES Schemes, and is currently a member of a CEN working group to develop a European Standard for Competence in installation of PT Kits.

Haydn Kirrage - Slabtec Pty Ltd & PTIA
Haydn Kirrage is the Managing Director of Slabtec Pty Ltd, A Director of the PTIA and the Chairman of the PTIA Technical Committee. Slabtec is a specialist contractor in the field strengthening and remediation of concrete structures. He has over 25 years’ experience in post-tensioned concrete in Australia and the Middle East. Haydn has a Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wollongong and a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering from the University of New South Wales where he has acted as a guest lecturer for the design of post-tensioned concrete structures. A Director of the PTIA for the last 7 years, Haydn has also previously presented for the CIA on behalf of the PTIA on the topics of “Truncation of Post-Tensioned Tendons” and “Grouting of Post-Tensioned Structures”.

The Post-Tensioning Scheme provides a step towards the regulation of the building and construction industry. By better educating engineers, architects, clients and owners and ensuring that contractors and suppliers are certified, we can begin to build greater trust in the building sector. Post-Tensioning Institute Australia (PTIA) and CARES Post-Tensioning Scheme will require significant investment and Government support. The PTIA is calling on all post-tensioning stake holders to get on board with this initiative.
