Overview

Guidance on design and qualification of anchors in concrete has been published in Australia in Technical Specification TS 101 in 2015 and later in AS 5216 in 2018. A revision of AS 5216 will soon be released. This revision will widen the scope of the standard and include multiple applications and conditions that were previously not covered. This webinar will go through the main changes in the 2021 revision of the standard.

All of our speakers are members of the Australian Engineered Fasteners and Anchors Council (AEFAC) and have been involved in the development of the standard.

Topics

Presentation 1: Selecting seismic performance categories for post-installed fasteners.

The revised version of AS 5216 requires seismic prequalification and design of post-installed fasteners. Under seismic actions the prequalification requirements and hence the selection of suitable seismic performance categories for fasteners is highly dependent on the expected damage conditions of the concrete substrate. This presentation provides a background to seismic prequalification requirements and the selection of seismic performance categories for fasteners in Australia.

Speaker: Anita Amirsardari - Research Fellow, Swinburne University of Technology

Presentation 2: Changes regarding cast-in anchor channels

For the first time, AS 5216 will also contain a design concept for anchor channels loaded in shear along the longitudinal direction of the channel. The presentation explains the failure mechanisms that must be observed and explains the testing regime that is required to obtain a product approval.

Speaker: Andreas Boomkamp – National Technical Manager | Australia & New Zealand, Leviat

Presentation 3: The qualification and design of chemically anchored rebar connections

The new anchor standard enables post-installed rebar connection to be qualified based on the European Assessment Document “EAD 330087” and the principles of the AS 3600 are utilized for the calculation of bar development length. The presentation explains the background of the pre-qualification process and demonstrates the design through some worked examples.

Speaker: Balazs (Baz) Kaknics – Codes & Approvals Manager, Hilti Australia Pty Ltd
