Overview

Melbourne Airport Rail is a transformational public transport project connecting Melbourne Airport to Victoria’s regional and metropolitan train network for the first time.
 
Detailed planning and development work is currently underway, with construction scheduled to begin in 2022 with a target opening date of 2029.
 
This webinar will give an insight into this exciting project, with presentations from RPV (Rail Projects Victoria) and the lead architect.  It will be of great interest to all those involved in design and construction of major infrastructure.

Olaf Detering (Architectus)

Olaf Detering is a Senior Associate at Architectus. He commenced his career working on large-scale commercial projects before finding his calling in rail projects. Olaf has been involved in a broad number of recent local major rail projects including Regional Rail Link, Auckland City Rail Link, Sydney Metro, North West Rail Link, Metro Tunnel Project, Cross River Rail, Suburban Rail Loop and Melbourne Airport Rail. Olaf is passionate about engineering details and runs technical design review workshops within the Architectus studio in Melbourne.

About this Presentation
The focus of the presentation will be the rail viaducts of the Melbourne Airport Rail alignment. Olaf will be talking about how Architectus' design philosophy of People, Place, Purpose, Planet, Production applies to the Reference Design of the viaducts for the project. Architectus is working as part of the Aurecon, Jacobs and Mott MacDonald Joint Venture team who are the technical advisor to Rail Projects Victoria.

Vito Trantino  (Director Development and Delivery - Melbourne Airport Rail)
Vito Trantino is a professional civil engineer with 23 years of experience in civil and marine infrastructure design and construction. In 2017, Vito was recognised as one of the top-30 innovative engineers in Australia by Engineers Australia for his leadership and his contribution to the innovative use of non-metallic materials in harsh marine environments.

Across his career, Vito has led the engineering on several multi-disciplinary projects including wharf extension and berth rehabilitation within the Port of Melbourne, and the Seaford Rail Extension in South Australia which comprises the longest incrementally launched bridge in the southern hemisphere.

Today, Vito is the Director of Development and Delivery for Melbourne Airport Rail and is assisting leading the delivery of the long-awaited connection of Melbourne Airport to Melbourne’s metropolitan and regional rail network.
