Student Membership

The Institute realises the importance of being able to engage with students who are the future lifeblood of the concrete industry. Being able to provide services that are valued by students is at the forefront of the Concrete Institute's agenda.

Student Membership is available to any student who meets the membership requirements. That is they must be:

  • An Australian resident.
  • Enrolled full time in a course of study related to concrete technology and practice as applied in the design, construction, supply, provision of materials and maintenance of concrete structures.

There are two types of Student Membership:

Free Student Membership is available to those students who meet the above criteria and are enrolled with a current Academic Member of the Concrete Institute of Australia.

Paid Student Membership is available to those students who meet the above criteria and are not enrolled with a current Academic Member of the Concrete Institute of Australia.

A list of current Academic Members can be found at the bottom of the page.

Two key aspects of Student Membership are:

  • Access to technical resources to assist in research and assignments
  • Discounted prices to seminars and events which provide learning opportunities, as well as the opportunity to network with industry professionals
Resources available to Student Members include:
  • Complimentary 'Members Only' downloads of CIA Technical Documents
  • Complimentary 'Members Only' downloads of fib Technical Documents
  • Access to our Online 'Members Only' Resource Centre including CIA Conference Proceedings
  • Online access to the industry recognised Concrete in Australia magazine including archived copies back to 2008
For a full list of available benefits please see the Institute's Membership Entitlements Chart.

Membership of the Institute provides an ideal means to remain informed about the latest developments in concrete technology and to establish connections with leading industry professionals that can last throughout a Member's career.

Student Membership Application and Renewal Process

All new Student Members must apply using the appropriate form (links above). Your application must include evidence of your current enrolment. Within seven days your application will be assessed and you will either receive a confirmation email that your membership has been approved or we will email you to advise of your ineligibility or request further information.

If an Academic Member is cancelled for any reason future student applicants enrolled at the institution will not be eligible for Free Student Membership however they would be able to take out Paid Student Membership assuming they meet the other eligibility criteria.

Free Student Members at the time of the Academic Membership cancellation will remain valid until the Student Membership falls due for renewal, at which time the Student Member would need to convert to Paid Student Membership (assuming they meet the other eligibility criteria) to remain a Student Member.

If the institution at which a Paid Student Member is enrolled becomes an Academic Member the student will continue to be considered a Paid Student Member and has no entitlement to a refund of the membership fee.  They will be eligible to convert to Free Student Membership when their next renewal falls due.

If you have any questions about Student Membership please contact our Membership Services Manager on 02 9955 1744 or [email protected].

"I joined the Concrete Institute of Australia as a Student Member in 2010 and found the resources invaluable while I completed my PhD.  Equally important were the contacts I made by attending seminars and networking.  On completing my studies I became a Representative Member of the Institute when employed in a senior position with a leading construction products supplier who were Company Members.
Since then I have become involved with the NSW Branch Committee of the Institute and in June 2015 was elected President of the Branch.  This has enabled me to further develop my network of industry contacts which has assisted me in setting up my own company. There is no doubt that Membership of the Concrete Institute has assisted my career development and will continue to do so in the future."
