The webinar will be presented by Ms Lucy Hancock, who is a Senior Associate in Building, Construction and Infrastructure with the law firm Mills Oakley. Lucy will take our delegates through the new Acts and break down how they will apply. The two new pieces of legislation that come into force in 2020 are:

  • Design and Building Practitioners Act
  • Residential Apartment Buildings (Compliance & Enforcement Powers) Act

This is a webinar that will be of interest to all engineers and practitioners in the concrete construction industry around the country.

Design and Building Practitioners Act

The Act introduces other changes that come into effect from 1 July 2021 such as regulated designs for building elements (including fire, waterproofing, structural and services) and performance solutions, as well as establishing a registration for design professionals (such as engineers) to be duly registered and
adequately insured, and to provide declarations that their designs comply with the building code.

Residential Apartment Buildings (Compliance & Enforcement Powers) Act:

The Act provides the Department of Customer Service with powers to manage building developments during the construction phase. The Act will limit defective buldings being on-sold to consumers and therefore limit the problems that would otherwise be inherited by apartment owners.
