Overview

The major challenges in deciding to move ahead with early age erection and bracing of pre-cast elements are:
  • Measurement of concrete strength on site vs lab
  • Performance of proprietary cast-in anchoring systems and the industry developed in-house types

These challenges will be presented in parallel with the testing regime of a bracing anchorage system. In addition, the seminar will cover further gaps that might need to be addressed in the future.

Content 
Bracing of Precast Elements on Early Age Low Strength Concrete Flooring
The Australian construction industry, driven by the need to develop more efficient and safe methods of construction, evolved the practise of erecting and bracing precast concrete elements on early age low concrete strength suspended floor systems. This method of construction has significantly compressed a multi-level building’s program by at least 1-2 days per floor cycle. The webinar will cover examples of this and the challenges that arise when incorporating these methods.

Concrete Maturity Testing 
Early, rapid, and accurate in-situ estimation of the compressive strength of concrete is one of the major challenges for the concrete industry. The maturity method is a convenient approach to predict the early age strength gain of concrete, using the principle that the concrete strength is directly related to the hydration temperature history of cementitious paste. Maturity testing presents a method far more accurate that current practices used in Australia and provides a procedure for testing to fill the void in current Australian standards when addressing early age strength testing of concrete. The Maturity Method is being further enabled as a cost and timesaving measure through advances in IoT and technology. It has fast become the go- to method for early age strength measure and management.
