Chris investigates how concrete shrinkage is determined in the relevant codes, he goes on to explain several points that need to be considered and the variables that may or may not be effecting the final shrinkage calculation. Chris proposes a revised test method that may eliminate some inherent issues with the current test.

  • Lab test concrete cylinders
  • Loading cylinders
  • Concrete cylinders strength Vs Concrete cube results
  • AS 3600 - Uniaxial tensile strength
  • Tensile strength determined from flexural strength
  • Shrinkage
  • Microstrain AS 1012.13
  • Determine the final basic drying shrinkage and is this correct
  • Alternative test for autogenous shrinkage of the concrete
